There are a myriad of options when it comes to creating the perfect pond for you.  From simple systems built for plants to professional equipment for the demanding hobbyist, there is no wrong way to build a pond, as long as it is built well and meets your expectations.  AquaTerra does not install a one-style-fits-all or one-size-fits-all pond, as we customize every pond to your needs and desires. To get started on an idea to work with, click on the following styles of pond to find out more.

Watergarden- A pond built for aquatic plant life over all else.  This style of pond will tend to be shallow with multiple depths to accommodate for a large variety of plants with different requirements.  Generally, you would not want a lot of water movement from large fountains or waterfalls. Goldfish and Mosquito fish can survive over winter in this type of pond, provided enough space and depth.  The perfect pond for the gardening hobbyist.

Eco-System/Advanced Eco-system Pond- A pond built to accommodate both plant and fish life.  There are a great many variations on this style of pond, depending on your goals and requirements.  This type of pond can have steep sides or multiple shelves.  It could also have bare liner below the water level or be fully hidden with rock and gravel.  This style of pond can house various types of goldfish, turtles, frogs, and plants.  With proper sizing, equipment, and maintenance, you can house Koi long term in this type of pond.  AquaTerra generally installs more advanced equipment on this type of pond compared to many contractors.  This allows for easy cleaning of the system and less maintenance.

Under-gravel Suction Grid- This type of pond is an ideal long-term home for koi and other large fish.  It is a full rock-and-gravel type pond, generally constructed with fewer shelves and steep sides.  A PVC suction grid is installed underneath the gravel, which pulls water through the bottom of the pond to your filtration system, turning the entire pond floor into an active filter.  A pond built this way will go many years without needing to be professionally cleaned.  Consider this option if you love the look of a natural pond but want a superior home for your fish with far less maintenance.

Dedicated-Koi Pond- As opposed to the under-gravel suction grid, this pond is a bare liner (or coated concrete) pond with one or more bottom drains and a gently sloped bottom. It is a pond focused on the living jewels that are Koi, with steep sides and little room for plants that require deeper water.  These ponds usually utilize very sophisticated filtration systems. All debris is thoroughly collected and removed, while the biological filtration accommodates for heavy fish loads and heavy feeding.  Think big, beautiful fish, fast! This type of pond needs no professional cleaning if you take a bit of time to let us walk you through servicing your filters.  The ideal pond for Koi and Koi enthusiasts!
